PCD Monthly Newsletter: May 2025

Monthly-Newsletter-Header

Hello, Courageous Democrats!

Welcome to our new monthly newsletter for the Payne County Democrats! Hopefully this will go a long way to keep members informed about upcoming business at meetings, community events, and committee updates within our organization.

As the new Chair for PCD I'm excited to pick up on the momentum that has already been created and fight to protect our towns and our county and our state from the dismantling of the programs and alliances that so many people depend on for the baseline structure of daily life.

Diamond Donkey is nearly sold out! And we just learned that Leader Munson will be in Stillwater starting at 3pm on Saturday. So, we've worked with her team to create an opportunity for more people to meet our Democratic gubernatorial candidate. RSVP to this 3pm Meet and Greet event!  No contribution is required to attend. Anyone who attends will be automatically entered to win a ticket to the Payne County Democrats Diamond Donkey Gala, at 7pm, featuring a plated dinner and keynote speech by Leader Munson. To buy your own Diamond Donkey ticket, click here. To donate directly to Leader Munson's campaign with 100% of the proceeds going toward electing Munson for Governor, click here to donate.

As we organize, we'll continue to create community-focused methods of raising money toward our cause. The more money we raise, the more we can support our elected officials and contribute to new candidate campaigns. This month our key fundraiser is the Diamond Donkey Gala.

Thank you to everyone who attended last Thursday's meeting! We hope to see you at the next meeting June 12th, where everyone will have a chance to vent and set their intentions for their political advocacy and community work for the next month. We'll also review the results of the Diamond Donkey Gala fundraising event, review the results of the precinct training event, discuss next steps for committees and prepare for State Convention. We will also have a guest speaker, John Waldron, State House Representative who will be speaking about his candidacy for State Chair of the Democratic Party.

As we coordinate within our local and county-wide communities, there will be multiple opportunities to engage with your fellow Payne County Democrats. To make these events successful and to create the energy and outcomes we all imagine, all we need is YOU!  Please check out the events listed below and plan to attend - and bring your friends, family, colleagues and neighbors with you!

I truly believe that our efforts will create real progress in Oklahoma. We simply have to keep our ideals in focus, work toward them daily, remember that the more people we have with us the faster we can achieve our goals! I look forward to meeting all of you soon, and working with you to promote our values, educate, engage and expand our electorate, and protect our democracy by finding strong candidates to run for office every time we have the chance, in every community of Payne County.

I look forward to working alongside you to strengthen our community. Feel free to call, text or email me -- anytime.
~ Sarah

- Precinct Captains will get LOTS of support and training. We will have our first Precinct Training event on May 20th from 6:30 to 8:30pm in room 108 at the Stillwater Community Center.
- We need to get our committees fully set up so that we have the structure to do the work at hand.

PRECINCTS: Find your Precinct here: https://okvoterportal.okelections.gov/
See
neighboring precincts by clicking here.
If you are already a precinct officer, you can add a neighboring precinct to your "territory".

We need a Chair for these precincts: 05, 06, 07, 09, 14, 15, 101, 102, 201, 301, 403, 405, 600406, 407, 408, 409, 410, 411.

We need a Vice Chair for these precincts: 04, 07, 08.

If you would like to be a committee member for your precinct to help the chair and vice chair organize in that neighborhood, they can absolutely use your help!
Email chair@paynecountydemocrats.org to express your interest in Precinct Leadership.

COMMITTEES: We have at least one Payne County Democrat assigned to every committee. But we need more to join these groups so that real work can be done. Please read through the committees below to see what they do and consider joining! Reach out to the Chair if you are interested in joining their committee.

Precinct and Voter Engagement Committee: Creates events for Precinct Captain support, training and engagement. Keeps track of local elections in Payne County and works to make sure that we are doing meaningful outreach and education around election events. Coordinates with League of Women Voters, Red, Wine and Blue and other voter-focused groups within Stillwater and Oklahoma Consortium.
* We need a Vice Chair, a Secretary, 2 researchers and all the members we can get!!

Political Affairs Committee: keep up with current political climates, follow bills in the federal and state government, and present this information to the county party. Sends alerts for action to party members.

Communications Committee: works with the Sarah, Sam and Cynthia to facilitate communication on the website, social media, press, and involving recruitment campaigns for members, candidates and party leadership positions. * We need a Vicechair, Secretary and 2 members for this committee.

Budget and Fundraising Committee: Creates the budget alongside the Chair, maintains payment records and makes payments and tracks donations. Helps to come up with fundraising ideas throughout the year. Helps to find people to donate.

Veteran's Affairs Committee: Keeps PCD informed on veterans needs, as well as legislation regarding veterans issues.
* We need a Chair and Vice Chair and Secretary for this committee.
**A Chair person has been nominated and has not yet accepted.

Membership and Recruitment Committee: Prioritizes growing and maintaining membership in the county party. Keeps an eye out for potential candidates to recruit for public office. Event planning and people skills are a must for members.
* We need a Vice Chair, Secretary and 4 members for this committee.

Community Engagement Committee: Works to get the word out about all that we are doing and engage the public in our events and activities and conversations and initiatives. Works with other groups in town and across Payne County.

While membership in these committees is open to anyone interested, the chair of each committee will make final decisions on who is a voting member. Some groups may have more members while others may only have a handful.
